2007 Father of All Duck Races takes place ..... in record-setting, agonizingly SLOW time ....
Ducksters Steve Hamilton, Eric Zint and Chad Jordan ... the latter being the Paris Hilton of Paint Creek, who kicked back in his kayak, sunning himself, while the rest of us trekked through the murky, slow-moving waters, herding ducks! The duck director THREATENED to dock his pay! What pay?
According to the official timekeeper, that would be Mayor John Baal, it took the ducks and their shepherds 58 minutes to get to the finish line. As painful as the wait might have been for the spectators, it HAD to pale in comparison to what the duck crew---Eric Zint, Chad Jordan (aka Paris Hilton of Paint Creek), Steve Hamilton, Liza Dietrich, Kris, Cy and Harper Cross and Cindi Pearce -- was enduring. The water wasn't moving, the ducks, more than 400 of them, weren't moving. However, we DID eventually reach the finish line---the motley, ragtag crew of wet, banged up, bruised up, scraped and bludgeoned ---yes, in our frustration, as we were tossing ducks into the middle of the creek, we began to take duck-angst provoked potshots at one another, deliberately throwing ducks at each other --- and we did have winners including: 1st place duck #99, Eleanor Chroninger ($500): 2nd place duck #45, Joann Ruelas (of Texas!), $300; 3rd place duck #307, Roberta Riley ($150); 4th place duck #303 Kaye York-Longworth, ($100); 5th place duck #31, Reagan Arthur (whose twin won last year), ($75); 6th place duck #158, Charla Mathuews ($65); 7th place duck, #33, Elaine Hays ($50); 8th place duck #9, Toni Taylor ($40); 9th place duck #262, Jim Barnett ($25) and last place duck, #476, Shawn Countrymen ($25).
Following the race, the band Dumbfounded performed for a crowd on the city hall lawn. As always, the performance was greatly enjoyed.
The fifth annual oldtimers' game was held July 21, 2007, with Tate's Thrashers exacting revenge on Baal's Bashers after three defeats by Baal's feisty oldsters. The Thrashers outscored the Bashers by three runs. Those participating were, front row from left, Steve Hamilton, Ralph Nooks, George Smith, Glenn Penwell, Bill Carson, Nick Blaser, Danny Long, Don Dietrich, Donnie Willman and Dallas Carmen; standing from left, Steve Smith, Carl Cottrell, Rob McCray, Mick Funk, Tom Meyers, Tony Anderson, Tom Smith, Charles Willis, Doug Savage, Steve Wile, Ray Roberts, Jim Faulkner, Mark Smith, Dennis Munro, John Baal and Jerry Savage.

Man overboard! Nothing like an unexpected dip in Paint Creek to cool your jets!
